I've been a lazy blogger lately...not writing since July. I feel bad as I'm not doing a very good job recording the girl's summer - bad Mommy! I don't know what my problem is (or was). It's not like we weren't out and about and doing fun things that I could write about. In fact, we've had a pretty busy and fun summer so far. I guess I've just been un-inspired (is that a word??) to write. I feel like the activities updates would just bore you. And pictures haven't been moved from the camera to the computer in over a month and without pictures, well, that's even more boring... So I just kept asking myself, "what can I write about?" Taking the girls to a spray park to play in the water? Our annual visit to the Ohio State Fair? First trip to COSI (science / hands-on museum)? The girl's latest achievements? My promotion at work (albeit a temporary one)? Our upcoming anniversary trip to Cleveland? I knew it was just a matter of time though before something would strike a chord with me and I'd be in "blog mode" again.
And as a matter of fact, that "something" happened on Sunday. We spent the morning at the Columbus Zoo, checking out lots of animals and got home just in time for naptime. Penelope fell asleep on the way home so I took her straight upstairs in hopes that she wouldn't completely wake up. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and I think the catnap in the car prevented her from really going back to sleep. All throughout the nap, I kept hearing voices on the monitor but I was never really sure who wasn't sleeping. There was giggling, humming, "talking" and finally near the end, an occasional "uh oh". I had a feeling I should just go get them up, but I really wanted to enjoy my last few minutes of "me time" and finish up a TV program I had recorded earlier in the week. That will probably be the last time I ignore my "mother's intuition". So now you're probably wondering just what it was that happened. Or maybe you other mother's out there can guess. :D
Imagine my surprise and shock and horror to find Penelope standing in a her crib completely naked from the waist down with pieces of poo by her feet and on the floor!!!!! Yuck! I think I must have stood in the doorway for a good minute staring at the floor and wondering just where to start the clean up. First thing I did (after getting a new diaper and shorts on Penelope and moving her to Amelia's crib) was run out to the garage to share with Paul and then grabbed the cameras so I can one day embarrass my baby girl. By the time I got done telling him, I was laughing and finding the whole thing pretty funny. Because in reality, I think we got off pretty easy (this time!). The poo was kinda rabbit like (TMI?!?) and mainly just hard pellets. Really lucky since she ate a bunch of blueberries the night before!! Anyway, it was easy to pick up, there were no stains on the carpet, nothing smeared on the wall or crib or face or hair and all the items in the crib were washed and back in place before bedtime. So no real damage to speak of. The thing is, with 2 babies, I knew this would happen to us eventually. It too was just a matter of time... The funny thing is, I never would have guessed it would be Penelope. Amelia is the child who tends to take off her clothes, especially at naptime and bedtime. That just goes to show, my girls hardly ever do what I expect and tend to prove me wrong.
Now no blog post is really complete without pictures so I've got a few to share. And no, these aren't pictures of Penelope's mess! While I did take some pictures - and video - to record the moment, I thought it was better not to post those. These are from the spray park we went to back in July. It is a really fun place to visit and both girls had a good time (although Amelia took quite some time warming up to it). I'm learning that she just needs a little extra time getting comfortable in new situations, but once she's "ok", she can really turn on the charm and silliness.
Not afraid of the tall spray!
Checking it all out (look at the big waterfall in the background)
Walking right over the little sprays
Watching - and waiting - for the spray to come back
As we head into fall, I hope to get better about blogging again. Especially with Halloween and a 2nd birthday fast approaching! Stay tuned...
